"Foam Mattress III" Print, Mathilde Steullet
Behind the Work
“I wanted to create a photographic body of work where a human being conflicts with an everyday object. A mattress is synonymic of comfort and tenderness - we feel good there. I construed this sort of emotional connectivity between human and object by flipping the gravity and having the mattress suppress the figure. Instead of peaceful serenity, it creates the feeling of isolation, loneliness and questionable worry.”
