"Ajena" Print, Florencia Magallanes
Behind the Work
"This artwork is part of the “Bicefalia” series, which explores the dynamics of the conscious and unconscious human mind. The title of this artwork, “Ajena" means alien, and it examines how the understanding of our own emotions sometimes acts like a dialogue between two voices inside of our heads. In this particular drawing, we can see a provocative glance towards the viewer in what we could think are two different characters - one with short hair and without clothes and the other with longer hair and clothes on. It is actually the same character in two different spaces of time, asking herself, “Is this desire”? The question about desire is a main subject in my practice and I find that there is not only one resounding answer or explanation to it, but rather it is an emotional meaning subject to constant change."
Florencia Magallanes, “Ajena”. 2017. Digital Drawing.
